The Calgary Board of Education stands with organizations across the country in recognizing the importance of mental health during the Canadian Mental Health Association’s 70th Mental Health Week from May 3 to 9, 2021.
According to the CMHA, the theme of this year’s Mental Health Week is
understanding our emotions. That means understanding that emotions exist on a spectrum and that it’s healthy for us to acknowledge the complete range of human emotions — even the uncomfortable ones like sadness, fear and anger.
For the second year in a row, Mental Health Week is being observed during the COVID-19 pandemic. While the public health situation has impacted so much in the world, it has had a particular impact on students, teachers and everyone who supports the education system.
Mental Health Week gives us a chance to reflect on the many ways we can promote mental health in schools and across the system. The CBE encourages students, educators, and staff to check out the resources available.
