CBE Students Score Impressive Medal Haul at Provincial and National Skills Competitions

Jun. 18, 2024

CBE’s Success Highlights the Dedication of Students and Staff

The Alberta and Canadian Skills Competitions are known as the “Olympics of skilled trades and technology careers,” and CBE students cleaned up at this year’s competitions. CBE students won just under half of all medals in categories including autobody repair, culinary arts, public speaking and web design and development. These results highlight the dedication of students who put in countless hours of practice to get to this level of excellence in their trade.

At the provincial competition in Edmonton (May 8 and 9), CBE students brought home 30 medals. Thirteen of these students went on to compete at the national competition in Quebec City (May 29 to 31), receiving seven medals in 13 categories.

This level of success highlights the importance of offering skilled trades programs starting in Grade 10 across CBE high schools. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and guided by experienced teachers, students are empowered to discover and pursue their passions.

“Seeing CBE students do so well in this year’s competitions really shows the strength of CBE’s CTS programs,” says Ken Weipert, Education Director- Complementary Curriculum and Pathways. “Not only are they becoming top-skilled tradespeople, but I also hear from many students that they no longer worry about what will happen after graduation because they know they now have the skills to succeed in their chosen profession.”

Congratulations to students for their outstanding achievements and to our educators for supporting them.
