East Side Dance Festival Society Wins Award for Community Achievement

Jun. 19, 2023

Volunteer teachers who run the East Side Dance Festival Society were thrilled to win a City of Calgary Community Achievement in the Arts award at a ceremony held on June 14.  The society was formed in 2014 by four Calgary high school teachers with the original goal of providing performance opportunities for marginalized youth. Ten years later, the festival has grown to 13 CBE and CSSD schools and 400 students.

“We’ve been on a real journey over the past ten years,” said Kelly Brownlee, co-chair of the East Side Dance Festival Society. “Everyone involved in our organization, the teachers, our community partners and our students, have demonstrated incredible resilience, creativity, and dedication to keeping the East Side Dance Festival alive and well. We have so much to celebrate and so much to look forward to.”

Congratulations East Side Dance Festival Society!
