Encuentro Espanol – Celebrating the Spanish Bilingual Program

May. 19, 2022

On April 20, a group of students from A.E. Cross and Robert Warren schools attended a unique event that took place at Crescent Heights High School. Students in Grades 6 to 9 from the Spanish Bilingual junior high schools arrived to a bustling main gym, filled with Latin rhythms and teaming with enthusiastic high school leadership students who were excited to host their first in-person event since the beginning of the pandemic.

The visiting students had the opportunity to tour the school and participate in a series of engaging language and cultural activities prepared by Leadership 30 students. The students were able to practice their Spanish language skills with Spanish-speaking high school students and staff while they took part in a variety of activities that included everything from Latin dancing, to creating historical monument design challenges, to a guacamole dip making competition.

This event is one of several that have taken place at Crescent Heights High School this year in order to promote the new site of the Spanish Bilingual High School program while fostering meaningful relationships with staff, students, families and administrators at other Bilingual Program Schools within the Calgary Board of Education.
