On Friday, March 23 the Government of Alberta announced two new schools and the planning dollars for two more schools for the Calgary Board of Education:
- Mahogany (elementary K-4)
- Skyview Ranch (elementary/middle school K-9)
- Auburn Bay (middle 5-9) – design funding
- North Calgary High School (10-12) – design funding
“On behalf of our current and future students, we are grateful to the government for this announcement of new schools and planning dollars. Today’s announcement is an exciting time for our communities. It means their children will be able to attend school closer to where they live. This important funding will reduce the need for transportation and will provide dynamic spaces to support the changing learning needs of our students,” said Marilyn Dennis, Vice-Chair of the CBE Board of Trustees.”
The CBE opened three new schools this fall and is scheduled to open Griffith Woods School in April and the new Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School in the community of Seton this September. Additionally, there are currently three new elementary school construction projects in the communities of Cranston, Coventry Hills/Country Hills Village and Evergreen, and three high school modernizations under development.
At the March 13, 2018 public board meeting, the Calgary Board of Education Board of Trustees approved the Three-Year School Capital Plan 2019-2022 requesting 12 new schools and 10 major modernizations from the Provincial Government. This plan has been submitted to the Province in advance of the April 1, 2018 deadline.
