Water Main Repairs in NW Calgary
Aug. 26, 2024
Page Content
On the evening of Wednesday, June 5, The City of Calgary discovered a large water main break on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main. The initial break and five other areas needing emergency repair were fixed in late June. After a pipe scan analysis, it was determined that several further repairs would be required along additional sections of pipe. To facilitate these repairs, The City will
return to Stage 4 Outdoor Water restrictions from Aug. 26 to the end of September 2024.
For more information, view the City of Calgary's
Water Restrictions Summary Guide
The City of Calgary will be encouraging Calgarians to do their part to reduce water. For CBE schools, this means that we should do the following:
Outdoor reductions
- Irrigation systems will be shut off, and due to the time of year, winterization will commence (i.e. they will not be reactivated until next spring).
- No water based exterior cleaning (e.g. sidewalks, windows, etc).
- No washing of buses, or other CBE fleet vehicles unless necessary for safety reasons (e.g. mud-covered windows, indicators lights, etc.).
Indoor reductions
- Toilet flush volumes will remain reduced from 3.5L to 1.5L.
- Facility Operators will explore decreasing urinal flush frequencies wherever possible (older schools are on a timer vs a sensor).
- School administrators are encouraged to identify other water conservation measures they feel are reasonable to reduce indoor water usage.
As always, we take our direction from the Calgary Emergency Management Agency during such events. More information will be shared with you as the situation evolves. Please visit this site often to check for updates.
