CUPE Local 40 enters a 14-day cooling off period.

Without CBE's knowledge, CUPE Local 40 requests the mediator to "book out" from mediation without recommending a settlement, to allow CUPE Local 40 to begin a 14-day cooling-off period, which allows the union to apply for a strike vote.

CUPE Local 40 and CBE meet to discuss proposals.

Mediator is appointed. Due to unexpected personal circumstances, the lead negotiator is unable to attend December bargaining dates. New dates are set for Jan. 6 & 7 with the addition of a mediator for Feb. 12 & 13.

CUPE Local 40 applies to the Director of Mediation Services for a mediator. CBE agrees to the request.

CBE notifies CUPE Local 40 that it is not ready to proceed with November dates and both parties agree to exchange electronic proposals.

Four-year
collective agreementbetween CBE and CUPE Local 40 expires. This agreement provided a one-time market wage adjustment of 5% or more depending on the position in addition to 2.75% in wage increases for the four-year term. In addition, safety footwear allowance increased from $200 every 2 years to $150 annually and mechanic tool allowance increased from $500 to $600 annually. Non-monetary benefits included the addition of an option to allocate annual spending credits to a wellness spending account, and a change to give employees up to May 1 to establish their vacation schedule.

CUPE Local 40 provides notice to bargain to CBE. CBE and CUPE Local 40 bargaining committees are formed. Bargaining dates are set for Nov. 18 & 19 and Dec. 9 & 10.
